The Treatment

What is a Swedish Relax massage?

Swedish massage is the most widely practised form of therapeutic massage in the world. Developed in 19th-century Scandinavia, it uses long gliding strokes, kneading, rhythmic tapping and circular friction to release surface tension, improve circulation and switch on the body's natural relaxation response.

It is the gold standard for full-body relaxation, the treatment every other style is measured against. Pressure stays light to medium unless you ask for more, and the room is kept warm and quiet so your nervous system can genuinely let go.

At Aurrum it is a signature treatment, not a low-effort default. Eva specialises in Scandinavian relaxation technique with over a decade of practice, and every session runs the full booked time with no upselling.

Swedish Relax massage FAQ

Is Swedish massage painful?

No. Swedish massage is designed to be deeply comfortable, working with light to medium pressure rather than force. Long gliding strokes, gentle kneading and circular friction warm the muscle, ease surface tension and calm the nervous system, so most guests feel soothed from the first minutes rather than challenged. Before the session begins your therapist asks how firm you like the pressure, then checks in as the massage progresses and adjusts straight away if anything feels too strong or too soft. If one area is tender, say so and the work there becomes lighter; if you would like more depth across the shoulders or lower back, that is easy to arrange mid-session. Plenty of guests drift toward sleep on the table. If it is your first massage, mention that when you book and we will note it for your therapist.

How is Swedish massage different from deep tissue?

The two treatments differ in depth, speed and purpose. Swedish massage works the surface muscle layers with long, flowing strokes at light to medium pressure; the goal is relaxation, better circulation and relief from everyday tension. Deep tissue moves slowly and firmly into the deeper layers and the fascia around them, targeting chronic knots, recurring stiffness and restricted movement, so some productive discomfort is part of the process. Price reflects the extra intensity: Swedish is AED 525 for 60 minutes or AED 735 for 90, while deep tissue is AED 630 and AED 945. As a rule of thumb, choose Swedish when you want to unwind and reset, and deep tissue when a specific problem keeps coming back. If you are unsure, describe what you are feeling in a WhatsApp message and we will suggest the better fit.

How often should I book a Swedish massage?

Once a month works well for most guests and is the most common rhythm at Aurrum. A monthly session keeps everyday tension from accumulating in the neck, shoulders and back, and many regulars simply book their next visit before leaving. During stressful stretches at work, while training hard, or in the week before a big event, moving to a weekly or fortnightly session makes a noticeable difference to sleep and mood. There is no such thing as too often with Swedish massage; the pressure is gentle enough for frequent visits. We are open every day from 10:00 to 01:00, with the last appointment accepted at 00:30, so a late evening slot after work is easy to find. Book via WhatsApp at wa.link/aurrumspa or call +971 58 887 7893 and we will find a time that suits you.

Can I request a specific therapist?

Yes, and many of our regular guests do exactly that. Aurrum has a team of eight professional licensed therapists trained in the Russian, Ukrainian and European school of massage, and every one of them performs every treatment on the menu, so you never trade your preferred style for your preferred person. When you message us on WhatsApp, simply name the therapist you enjoyed last time and we will schedule around their availability wherever possible. If your preferred therapist is fully booked, we will offer the nearest open slot with them or match you with a colleague and pass along your pressure preferences and any notes from previous visits. First-time guests can also describe what they want from the session, deeper work, softer touch, quiet or conversation, and we will pair you with a therapist accordingly.

Is there anything I should do before the session?

Very little; Swedish massage needs almost no preparation. Avoid a heavy meal in the hour beforehand, drink some water during the day, and plan to arrive about ten minutes early so you can settle in without rushing. We are inside the LEVA Hotel at Mazaya Centre on Al Wasl, just off Sheikh Zayed Collector Road; valet parking is available at the hotel and the Mazaya Centre basement offers two hours of free parking, so allow a few minutes to park. If you have any allergies or a preference about massage oils, mention it when you book so your therapist can prepare. Beyond that, come as you are. A warm shower before you leave home is pleasant but not required, and everything you need, fresh linens and a quiet private room, is ready when you arrive.
